Binky Banky Building

Greetings from Santa's Friend!

One time I mentioned to Santa that we often talk about what he gives to kids but seldom say anything about gifts he might receive. This is what he had to say

-----------------------0---------------------------

Lord yes! I get all sorts of gifts. Just this past year little Abby was concerned that I would get cold during my trips to and from the "Pole." Her solution was to give me a scarf. What she chose was ideal. It was jet-black and thus goes well with anything, even the red and white that Mrs. Claus insists I wear.

There is no question about it. I sincerely appreciate the gifts I receive but over the years I have come to realize that I get far more out of giving gifts than I do out of getting them. In fact, I’ve had so much enjoyment I feel obligated to do what I can to communicate this feeling to others.

One of my approaches has had to do with "Binkies" and "Bankies." In case you are not aware, those are the nicknames for the bits of blanket and surrogate thumbs that children like, sometimes to the point of dependency. It is not unusual for parents to have a tough time getting their little ones to relinquish their "Binky" or "Banky."

My approach to this situation has been to pass the word that I have a "thing" about "Binkies" and "Bankies." I encourage parents to pass the word on to their children with the suggestion that, when the child no longer needs them, they really ought to wrap them up and give them to Santa for Christmas. The understanding is that some are passed on to other children who are less fortunate but the real collector’s items are earmarked for Santa’s private collection. Over the years, I have received an astonishing number of such presents - literally true!

There are even plans, in my "make-believe" world, of establishing a museum. It will be called the Binky Banky Building and will be housed in a Bigloo. (That’s the Polese word for "big igloo.")

In case you haven’t already guessed, there will be two rooms - a Blue Room for boys and a Pink Room for girls.

With that Santa was off again mumbling something about a Hotel he was planning. I’ll be in touch next month. Until then enjoy!
