Carolers
Greetings from Santas Friend!
Santa passed on this little anecdote. I thought you might enjoy it.
---------------------------0-----------------------
Mrs. Claus has been a member of the same bridge club for many years. We often joke about writing a book entitled the "Bridge Club." Every member has a horrendous tale to tell.
One member, along with her entire family, save one adopted son, died in a head on collision with a drunk driver.
Before Dr. Barnharts name became a household word another members husband developed a heart condition that resulted in one of the early transplant operations. It was a mixed blessing.
Yet another member lived through two years of not knowing the location of her five children when her ex husband abducted them.
A fourth member suffered through the heartbreak of watching her daughter slowly succumb to a brain tumor at age five. As a result this lady became very involved in a support group that helped parents in similar situations. One year, in the very early fall, my wife received a call from this lady. She had a special request for Santa.
There was a youngster dying of leukemia that loved Santa and was looking forward to seeing him at Christmas. According to the doctors she was not going to make it.
"Would it be possible for Santa to make an early trip?"
"Of course."
I suited up. Since it was some distance and there was no snow we didnt take the sleigh. Mrs. Claus drove. It was a new subdivision and very dark. She dropped me off in front of the house and said she would wait for me at the entrance to the cul de sac. When I got out of the car there were three girls in their early teens walking along the street. Showing no surprise at all, one said "Hi Santa." I said "Hi. What are you doing?"
"Caroling" was the answer.
I had a brilliant idea. I quickly explained about the little girl and asked if they would carol at the house while I made my visit. They agreed. I rang the bell. The girls were behind me - singing their hearts out. A small girl opened the door. Mom and Dad were close behind. We got no further than the foyer. I got down on my knees, hugged the little girl and started pulling presents out of the bag that had been prepared for her. I fibbed a little. I explained that I was making a practice run and had had a little trouble with the sleigh. So, while the elves were repairing it I thought Id drop in on a special little friend.
Soon it was time to go. I opened the door. The three little girls were still there belting out Christmas carols. I thanked them said "Merry Christmas" to all and scooted, down the stairs, into the darkness.
When I got to the car and told my wife what had happened she said, "Why on earth were those girls out caroling? Thanksgiving is weeks away!" It had all happened so fast I hadnt even thought about it, but she was right. Why were they there? And why were the caroling? Ive often wondered who those girls were.
They certainly werent elves! I would have recognized them.
