ELVES

One of the reasons I’m late in sending this E-mail is that I have a hard time getting everything done. My “TO DO LIST” continues to grow despite concerted effort.

Knowing that Santa has a longer list than I and knowing that he doesn’t like the term “helper” I was very careful when I asked how he managed to get everything done without “helpers.” He graciously responded.

I think you misunderstand. As you know from previous discussions, I object to people calling my alter egos “helpers.” If you wear a red suit and give for the right reasons you are Santa. Actually you don’t even have to wear red. All you need do is give because you love and hide your identity, by using my name, so that you can’t be repaid.

But that’s not to say that there aren’t a number of bonifide “helpers.” There are. I call them elves and elfesses. Many have been around a long time. They’ve honed their skills and even specialized. They would be hard to replace. Lionel is a good example. For years Lionel specialized in trains. Or there’s Tonka. Tonka is gangbusters on heavy equipment. W. Britain, of course, is unparalleled when it comes to lead soldiers.

Another notable would be Marx. Over the years Marx proved to be incredibly versatile. No challenge was too great. And we must not overlook the Parker Brothers. Admittedly they do fuss a bit but that is just their competitive nature. Their specialty is games.

As you might surmise the pre-eminent elfess is Alexander. She deserves the title of Madame.

Finally, no list of helpers would be complete if it didn’t include one very dependable English elf. I’m particularly fond of this one and if I permitted myself a favorite he would be a candidate. He’s a little cerebral and has specialized in educational toys. His name is Fisher-Price.

Having clarified his view of “help” and “helpers”, he was off. He had things to do.
