Water

The last time I Contacted Santa he seemed to be in a particularly jovial mood and laughingly said, “I am not only sitting on top of the world, I’m sitting on a gold mine.” I couldn’t resist. I asked him what he meant. This is what he had to say.

                              --------------------------------0--------------------------------

Water is the commonest substance on earth. It fills the oceans, rivers and lakes. It’s in the ground and in the air we breathe. It’s even in us. About 60% of a person’s body weight is water. Without water life as we know it could not exist.

Fortunately there’s plenty of it. A large portion of the world is water. To be a little more specific there are 322,300,000 cubic miles of it.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean we have enough “useable” water.

97% of all the water in the world is saline - salt water. You can’t drink it

It’s like Samuel Coleridge said in the Ancient Mariner “ Water Water everywhere…” but sadly, there are darned few drops to drink.

Of the remaining 3% of non-saline water 2/3rds is frozen and not readily useable. Not only that, it’s remote. Half is located at the South Pole and the other half at the North Pole.

That leaves 1% of the water of the world left for the daunting task of supporting life.

The crushing bit of information is that probably half of that one percent is polluted and the situation is getting worse.

If the trend continues business interests will start looking towards the Poles. And my operation, The North Pole, will be sitting on top of the raw material for over one third of the useable water in the world.

So you see it’s true. Not only am I sitting on top of the world, I’m sitting on a potential Gold Mine!

                              --------------------------------0--------------------------------

He had done it again! He sneakily snuck a moral in on me.

Christmas is only three months away so “…you better watch out!”
